Ear Keloid

Though the keloid scars are a difficult condition to treat, those occurring in the ear seems to have good prognosis and respond to treatment. Keloids without familial tendency tend to occur in the ears especially after second piercing. Though many causes can be postulated like piercing in older age group, piercing going through the cartilage and unsterile piercing. Usually it has a dumbbell appearance. Ideally the whole keloid is excised and the ear is reconstructed. What is important is the first six months follow up with good massage, silicone sheet and some scar creams. If it does not recur in 6 months ,usually it settles down well.
